We aim to produce microbiologists of excellent calibre, who have acquired diagnostic skills of common and uncommon infectious aetiologies, have developed good technical, research, and teaching skills, and at the same time being sensitive to the needs of the society and environment while practicing ethical code of conduct.
About the
Department
The scientific discipline of Microbiology is one of the most critical components of modern day science. Microbiology also constitutes an important section of study of applied biological science at various levels of graduate and post-graduate education. Therefore, study of microbiology offers tremendous potential in applied sciences. The Department of Microbiology, GAC (W), Salem -08, was started in 1997, it has now progressed into a multidisciplinary department with well-developed undergraduate and post-graduate courses. The department has infrastructure and facilities to take on an average 40 students for B.Sc Microbiology and 20 students for M.Sc Microbiology program every year.
The department is well-equipped with modern laboratories to provide quality teaching and research opportunities for students. The Department has the facilities like UV Visible Spectrophotometer, Laminar Air flow chamber, Cooling Centrifuge, Autoclave, Light microscope, Water Bath, Orbital Shaker Incubator, BOD incubator, UV-Transilluminator, Hot Air Oven, Refrigerator, pH meter, Dry Bath, Weighing balance, Magnetic stirrer, Vortex and Gel electrophoresis apparatus etc. The Department provides ample scope to students and faculties for academics and research. Postgraduate students in the Department gain valuable research experience through research project, which is practical training of the subject, offered as a part of the course curriculum. The graduates from this department are already employed in various academic, research and industrial organizations.
